A complaint has been filed in the Bandra Magistrate Court against YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia (BeerBiceps), comedian Samay Raina, and others over alleged obscene remarks made in an episode of the YouTube show India’s Got Latent. The complaint, filed by social activist Nikhil Ruparel through advocate Ali Kaashif Khan Deshmukh, seeks criminal action under the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act (IT Act).
Ruparel, who is the president of the National Delegate NSUI Student Wing (Congress), has alleged that a comment made by Allahbadia in the show’s bonus episode, shot on November 14, 2024, and aired recently, was “deeply offensive, obscene, and against public decency.”
Complaint Highlights
The complaint cites Section 296 of BNS, which deals with obscene acts in public spaces, and Section 67 of the IT Act, which prohibits the publication of obscene material online.
“The accused has made a statement that has the potential to create public mischief and outrage among various sections of society,” the complaint states.
It further argues that the consistent use of abusive language by the show’s panel—including Allahbadia, Raina, YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani, and Apoorva Makhija—contributes to the “normalization of disrespectful behavior” and negatively influences public morality.
Legal Action Sought
Ruparel has urged the Bandra Magistrate Court to take cognizance of the case and issue summons to the accused.
Additionally, advocate Satyam Surana, who practices before the Bombay High Court, has also filed a similar complaint against the show. Reports suggest that the Mumbai Police have initiated an inquiry into the matter.
The case has sparked a larger debate on the limits of free speech and the responsibility of content creators on public platforms. The court is yet to decide on issuing summons in the case.
