In a significant development in the ongoing property dispute between singer and actor Lucky Ali and IAS officer Rohini Sindhuri, the Karnataka High Court has stayed the First Information Report (FIR) filed against Ali. The FIR, which was registered earlier this year, accuses Ali of trespassing, wrongful restraint, intimidation, and damage to property in connection with the dispute.
On December 9, Justice M Nagaprasanna issued an interim order staying the FIR and barred the police from conducting any further investigation into the matter. The case concerns a property dispute between Ali and Sindhuri’s family, with Ali accusing the officer and her kin of involvement in land-grabbing activities.
Ali had approached the High Court seeking the quashing of the FIR, claiming harassment by the police due to Sindhuri’s senior position in the government. His legal team argued that the police were using their influence to target him unfairly, citing the complainant, G Bujjamma—Sindhuri’s mother-in-law—as the primary source of the allegations.
The Court, in its interim order, observed: “The allegation is that the respondent No.2 – complainant is the mother-in-law of a bureaucrat of the State Government. Therefore, the police are harassing the petitioners.” As a result, the High Court stayed all further proceedings in Crime No.547/2024, which is currently pending before the VII ACJM in Bengaluru.
The case traces back to June, when Ali lodged a complaint with the Karnataka Lokayukta, alleging land-grabbing by Sindhuri, her husband, and brother-in-law. Ali claimed that his property was being encroached upon by private individuals with the help of the bureaucrat.
The Karnataka High Court will further hear the case on December 16, as both sides prepare for the next phase of legal proceedings.
