In a significant development, a Delhi court has formally closed the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) case filed against former Wrestling Federation of India chief and ex-BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The closure follows the withdrawal of allegations by the minor female wrestler who had earlier accused Singh of sexual harassment.
Additional Sessions Judge Gomati Manocha at Patiala House Courts accepted the cancellation report submitted by the Delhi Police, which concluded that no prosecutable evidence remained in the case.
According to court records, the minor wrestler and her father personally appeared before the court and stated that they were satisfied with the police investigation. They also conveyed that they had no objection to the cancellation of the case. Taking note of this, the judge observed:
“Since the complainant and her father have expressed satisfaction with the investigation and have no grievance remaining, the cancellation report is accepted, and the matter is closed.”
The case, which had drawn national attention, initially formed part of a broader movement by women wrestlers who accused Singh of repeated misconduct and harassment. While the POCSO case has been closed, a separate case involving multiple adult women wrestlers remains ongoing, where Singh has been charged with offences including sexual harassment and outraging the modesty of women.
The closure of the minor’s case marks a legal turning point in the controversy but does not spell an end to the legal troubles for Singh, who continues to face trial in the other matter.
