In a progressive move aimed at enhancing student welfare, the Chanakya National Law University (CNLU), Patna, has announced the implementation of a menstrual leave policy for menstruating students. The decision was taken during the Executive Council meeting held on December 17, chaired by prominent legal and academic figures.

With this policy, CNLU joins the ranks of other National Law Universities (NLUs) such as those in Jabalpur, Hyderabad, Assam, Bhopal, Aurangabad, Mumbai, Raipur, and Visakhapatnam that have already extended similar support to menstruating students.

CNLU’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Faizan Mustafa, welcomed the development, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing student well-being. “I want students to enjoy their university life. Reports of students ending their lives due to heavily loaded curricula are deeply concerning. We do not want such academic stress for our students at CNLU,” he said.

Flexible Course Completion and New Academic Programs

In addition to the menstrual leave policy, the university has introduced a groundbreaking initiative allowing students to complete their courses at their own pace. Under this policy, students can fast-track their degrees by opting for more courses than the required number each academic year.

Further bolstering its academic offerings, CNLU announced the introduction of new programs in cybersecurity and digital forensics. These programs aim to equip students with cutting-edge skills and provide specialized training for police personnel in forensic sciences.

LL.M Program Overhaul and Faculty Recruitment Updates

The Executive Council has also approved new LL.M regulations, which will incorporate 50% more research components. Additionally, the university will prefer candidates with foreign degrees from reputed universities for faculty recruitment.

The meeting was attended by esteemed members, including Bihar’s Advocate General PK Sahi, Secretary of the State Education Department Baidya Nath Yadav, State Law Secretary Anjani Kumar Singh, and Chairman of the Bihar State Bar Council Ramakant Sharma.
